  Originally designed in 1947 by Wilfrid Gordon White of the Kelvin White Co., the Constellation compass series was available in 5,6,7 and 8 inch "apparent card" sizes.The Kelvin White Co. became the Wilfrid O. White and Sons Company which was sold to Danforth in 1961. Danforth added a 4 inch Constellation to the line. Danforth was sold to Rule Industries in the 1980's. Rule Industries added a 4-1/2" Constellation to the line. The Constellation compasses are still made to this day. To determine which size compass you have, measure the diameter of the clear dome. The Clear dome on the 6" Constellation measures 6-3/8" in diameter.The 6" Constellation compass takes approximately 70 ounces of compass oil to fill. Click on the schematic to enlarge the diagram.
